Your weekly goal is the profit you want after vehicle costs. To see how much you need to earn, add the week's costs to your goal. Use your own numbers in Radr's Weekly goal calculator.
What earnings means
What you receive for rides, before vehicle costs is what the tool calls earnings. You still need to subtract car costs to see what is left.
The calculation doesn't include income taxes or platform commissions. Use the amount you receive without subtracting a commission again if it has already been taken out.
Choose how to count costs
Under “I know the cost”, enter your cost per mile, including energy and fixed costs. The tool multiplies this value by your weekly miles.
Under “Calculate with my costs”, enter fuel economy, energy price and car costs such as maintenance, insurance, loan payment or rent, and other costs. Follow the period shown for each field. The tool calculates weekly energy and the weekly share of fixed costs using the same days and miles as your plan.
Count each cost once. If rent already includes insurance, leave insurance at zero. Don't enter energy again under “Other costs”.
The calculation, step by step
- Profit goal per week: choose how much you want left after vehicle costs.
- Days and miles: enter workdays per week and miles per day. Include the drive to passengers and work miles without a passenger.
- Hours per day: count all working time, including waiting. Days times hours per day gives weekly hours.
- Earn per week: add your profit goal to the week's costs.
- Per day, per hour and per mile: divide the weekly amount by days, weekly hours and weekly miles, respectively.
An example
Imagine a profit goal of US$1,000.00, with 5 days, 125 miles per day and 8 hours per day. That's 5 × 125 = 625 miles and 5 × 8 = 40 hours per week.
Under “Calculate with my costs”, choose a car you own with no loan payments, 30 mpg and fuel at US$3.40 per US gallon. Each month, use US$60 for maintenance, US$150 for insurance and US$40 for other costs. All remaining costs are zero.
Energy costs 3.40 ÷ 30 ≈ US$0.113333 per mile, or US$70.83 for the week. Fixed costs add up to 60 + 150 + 40 = US$250.00 per month; the weekly share is 250 × 12 ÷ 52 ≈ US$57.69. Adding energy and fixed costs before rounding gives weekly costs of US$128.53. Adding the rounded parts gives a total US$0.01 lower.
| Calculation | Formula | Result |
|---|---|---|
| Earn per week | 1,000 + unrounded weekly costs | US$1,128.53 |
| Per day | Unrounded weekly earnings ÷ 5 | US$225.71 |
| Per hour | Unrounded weekly earnings ÷ 40 | US$28.21/h |
| Per mile | Unrounded weekly earnings ÷ 625 | US$1.81/mi |
| After vehicle costs | Weekly earnings minus weekly costs | US$1,000.00 |
The goal, costs and results are fictional examples, with no earnings forecast or guarantee that you'll reach these amounts.
Watch out for rounded costs
In this example, cost per mile calculated from unrounded values is about US$0.205641/mi. If you copy US$0.21/mi into “I know the cost”, the calculation uses 0.21 × 625 = US$131.25 in costs. Required earnings change from US$1,128.53 to US$1,131.25. With this declared cost, the results are US$226.25 per day, US$28.28/h and US$1.81/mi.
Each result uses unrounded values. Displayed money is rounded to six decimal places, then to two. Multiplying the displayed per mile amount by weekly miles may therefore give a different weekly amount.
Use your own numbers
Open Weekly goal, choose how to count costs and enter your plan. If days, miles, hours or costs change, redo the math. The results show how much you need to earn with those numbers, without predicting what you'll receive.
